SURGICAL AUTOTRANSFUSION

Surgical autologous blood transfusion avoids most of the complications associated with transfusion of homologous blood, including transmission of disease, hemolytic transfusion reactions, and other immune phenomena. It is especially beneficial in surgeries that have a high potential for sudden blood loss, such as anterior lumbar interbody fusion.
